Gerald B. Lurie is a commercial litigator with a special expertise in landlord/tenant disputes. He has represented owners of office, retail, and industrial properties in a wide range of ownership issues including mechanic’s lien claims and municipal code compliance issues. He has represented buyers and sellers in litigation involving purchase and sale transactions and lenders and borrowers in real estate-related loan matters, including foreclosures and deed in lieu negotiations.
Gerry has over 40 years of litigation experience. He started his career as a special agent with the Illinois Bureau of Investigation. After four years he joined the United Charities Legal Aid Bureau and worked there for two years as the real estate staff attorney.
In 1976 he joined the Chicago firm of Rudnick & Wolfe as a litigation associate. He became a partner of the firm and continued to practice in the firm’s litigation department through its evolution into DLA Piper LLP (US).
Gerry has litigated in state and federal trial and appellate courts, including the United States Court of Appeals for the Seventh Circuit, the Illinois Supreme Court, the American Arbitration Association, and other alternative dispute resolution bodies.
